What The Hell Are You Wearing!!!!

Besides giving birth and having your lady parts all exposed, the gym might be the second the most mentally and physically crippling places on the planet. Physically because you might have to watch some 20 something year old Fredericks model wanna be strut around the gym wearing her size 2 workout pants, sports bra, not to mention shes carrying the obvious gaze from your husband or boyfriend. Be easy. Assault laws are still in effect. I know its taking every ounce of you not to pull her long locks out her scalp. But trust when I tell you men have these envious thoughts all the time. We're not exempt to throw the side eye to things we deem better or more attractive or just flat out want.

Now here's where it gets interesting. If I've learned anything, its that what you wear to the gym can play a major role in your psyche and overall gym experience. I've seen countless woman roll up to the gym in frumpy looking sweats and some big ass t-shirt thinking there about to get a good workout. Chances are you're about to waste your time and look terrible. Yea, its not the catwalk but have some pride. I'm a huge believer in working out in clothes that you would wear out on the street. I mean you you want to look better in your everyday clothes anyway, so why not wear something that keeps you motivated to reach you goal or  at least maintain your current shape.

When purchasing gym attire there should only be 4 factors that come into play. Purpose, comfort and look and attitude.

Purpose: Why are you in the gym in the first place? Abs class, yoga, Pilates or an hour long, boring cardio session. Pretty much any capri pant, or legging can be worn to do any of previously stated things. Seeing how they contour to your body, it makes it very easy to move and bend. Shorts are also an option but they tend to cause crotch wedgies and most look kind of wack in my opinion.

Comfort: You don't want to be known as the chick who's always pulling out her wedgie or constantly shoveling her boob back in her sports bra. Neither are attractive. What you're actually doing at the gym should be considered. For step classes, Zumba classes or just a balls out hard as hell weight training sessions with Power Elite Conditioning, I recommend anything Nike. Nike's Dri-Fit technology is specifically made to wick away sweat. The material is made up of micro fiber and polyester which pushes sweat to the surface of fabric. Less sweat on the bod will keep you cool and most definitely optimize your performance while working out.
Look: OK  here's my main point. I don't care who you are. In football we have a saying, " look good, play good". Now of course you could play like complete shit but you get my point. If you look good while working out, I guarantee you will work harder and with more passion and purpose. My yoga pant clothing pick for this is Lululemon. They are a Canadian based company but have made their way into 1000's of US closets. They don't have the wick away technology like Nike but they have a cellulite disappearing, curve popping technology that's just straight out flattering and sexy. Lululemon has some cool tops, but  I would check out Pink By Victoria's Secret. They have these colorful, bright, fun looking tank tops and crop tees that can add that extra flare you've been missing.

Attitude: Confidence, in my opinion, is the end all to be all in life. You win with confidence and you lose with enough confidence to come back and fight another gym. That mindset pays monumental dividends in the gym. Ever look in the mirror imagine that figure you've always wanted? No? Its because you're wearing that big ass t-shirt and sweats. Think of that same t-shirt as extra fat. Get rid of both and the body you want lies underneath. Just have to find that confident part of you that's willing to take on those judgmental stares while you're exercising. Those people can go to hell.

You might not be in love with your body but it is what you make it. Feeling good about what you wear will definitely give you a boost in the right direction. There's going to come a time where you'll love your body and you'll have have that ethereal feeling you've been looking for. You will be in total aww of your place in the universe, but you will be totally gratified by it. Trust me!

Life And Stylez

Being in the entertainment industry, sometimes its hard to hold on to a sense of normalcy. With a schedule so hectic, there is no doubt your diet and exercise regimen will suffer at some point. Well in Laura Stylez  case, its a little harder than the average person. If she's not off globetrotting the world for Hennessy, or hosting a party somewhere in the states you can always catch the lovely Laura Stylez, on the airwaves at Hot97. I've known Laura for about 7-8 years. We first met when I was a young buck trainer, and she was an associate producer for the Star and Bucwild morning show.

She recently hit me up wanting to start boxing again. This time, with a few more of her girls. She is part of the elite Heavy Hitters crew and and no doubt does she carry that moniker when she puts on the gloves.
Here's a quick Q&A with Laura Stylez.

Q. Whats your current occupation.
A. I'm a radio/media personality.

Q. What does that entail?
A. I'm a "radio personality" but I juggle a number of jobs. I do voice over work (in Spanish/English), host/produce events, clubs work as a brand ambassador for Hennessy

Q. How did you get started in radio?
A. Its something I always wanted to do. I started by assisting ,grabbing coffee to staying late and learning the ins and outs of radio. I was lucky to be around radio legends who really guided me.

Q. Who taught you the most in radio?
A. I have a number of people I look up to and who have helped me. Monie love gave me my first shot and also Ed Lover. But my mentor now is DJ Enuff. He's taught me a lot about the music business and radio politics.

Q. How crazy is your schedule?
A. its different every day. I can start as early as 4am to as late as 12pm. It changes daily.

Q.  Do you find it hard to lead a healthy lifestyle?
A. Yes! I'm constantly out and around people who just eat junk food or live off of vending machines.
I try to find healthy alternatives all the time.

Q. Whats your diet like?
A. I cut out most junk food and quit soda. I rarely eat red meat and I don't eat pork. My weakness is food like Mexican or Indian. But i'm  sticking to more greens and juices with protein during the week and treat myself on the weekends.

Q. What is your current workout routine?
A. I just started to do cardio 2-3 times a week and a boxing class.

Q. What is your fitness goal?
A. I'm trying to loose 20 lbs and be at my ideal weight.

Q. Do you you feel pressure to look a certain way being a woman in entertainment and do you feel pressure looking a certain way being from a Latin background?
A. Yes! Even though i'm in radio, I still have to host red carpets, video interviews and keep up with these super skinny girls, lol.

Q. Whats your biggest accomplishment so far?
A. Landing a 2 year endorsement deal with Hennessy, traveling the world hosting events and being a part of the number #1 Hip Hop station in the country/world Hot97

Q. Are you happy?
A. Getting there. When I reach my fitness goal and feel comfortable showing a little skin, then i'll be happy!

Liquid Diets Can Suck It

Friend just asked me about a quick cleanse because he has a family function in about a month. Not a fan of crash dieting or cleanses but this is what I told him. If you decide to do any cleanse, let it be a fruit and vegetable cleanse. For one, your body is use to eating solid foods so its less of a shock. Second, very few people last when they use extreme methods such as juice cleansing for an extended amount of time. They contemplate suicide after the 3rd hr.
The whole point of a cleanse it to reset your body and flush all the bullshit out. Pretty much starting with a clean slate. Now as far as the cleanse, just eat fruits and veggies for a minimum of 4 days, 5 if you've really been a fat ass. If you make it past the 5th, max it out at 7. Now depending on your past eating habits, you may need to use the John a lot, especially if you pick foods that are high in fiber. Don't worry. This is what you want. Now if you find yourself starving, eat some watermelon or fruits with a high water content. It will will fill you up quick. Boom! There you have it, knuckle heads. I'm out!

Cake Boss Is A Loss

So for those who do not know, Buddy Valastro is the Cake Boss. He has his own show on the TLC Network (nuff said). To give you a brief synopsis....Italian guy peddles pastries....the end.
Anyway, so Cake Boss opened up a bakery on 42nd street in Manhattan right next to the Shit hole of all shit holes, the Port Authority. Yes the place is a shit whole because  the mongrel race of baggers and whinos that comprise and reside there...but I digress.

So this fratello, in my opinion, is balls out overrated. After days of walking past it, I decided to finally stop in and see what the fuss was about. When I walk in, I'm greeted by some hood gentleman who tells me that the credit card machines are down and when I walk through the door to use the wheelchair ramp instead of the step. If anyone knows me, you know my mind exploded with sarcastic confusion but I was polite. I just said sure no problem. So I walk in, quickly survey the step, which I still don't see why It was off limits, and walk 5 feet out my way to the wheelchair ramp.

At the end of the wheel chair ramp is this display window where you can see all the cakes and pastries being made. Only thing I saw that was an appetizing 5'4 brunette with hazel eyes, black skirt, red Mary Jane's, and gold bracelet, that read " peace". Yea I took glance, SO WHAT! Ok Ill hurry this up.

The place is set up very poorly but I think it was done purposely. Its on the South west corner and its all glass so it gets full exposure. Last year alone NYC welcomed 50.9 million  tourists which undoubtedly filter through 42nd street at some point. When you walk in, there is this display case that houses all the pastries and artery clogging goodies. But the all that is hard to see because the line of patrons is blocking it. Also there are no prices for anything. How the hell am I supposed to know how much I'm being monetarily raped. So i decide to opt for a simple vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting
Hmmmm......where do I begin. Remember Easy Bake Ovens? Yea I was the damn boss of that thing. This buddy character is a piece of work. The Cupcake I had was dry and reminded me of something a PTA  parent would sell for her kid at the annual back sale. There was no holyshit moment. There was no orgasmic mouth ejaculation. NONE OF THAT! In my opinion the place is no better than Crumbs and that's not a compliment because Stephen Hawking could bake better. Only thing that was ok was the price which was fair at $3.00 and change.

Bottom line, Boss is a loss. Its nothing more than a tourist attraction meant to siphon money out of already strapped for cash individuals. I get the business side of things but your family built its rep off of tradition and fine baked goods. Next time, keep it that way instead of going Hollywood

Portion Control For The Portion Control Challenged

Happy 2013 everyone. So in the spirit of the new year and Auld Lang Syne and all that crap,I thought Id stray away from the rest of the blogs and not bore you with anything that resembles a list of resolutions. Instead I wanted to hit you with some need to know knowledge about portion control. I get asked all the time, "how much should I be eating" or "how can I measure my food without using a scale".
Now most of us hate to be told what to do. Tired of hearing statements like eat this and not that, drink this amount and not that amount. " It goes in this hole,Kyle, not hat one"...... Whatever the weird case maybe, we loath the idea of others in the driver seat. So my goal is not to hit you with a redundant speech on diets cause frankly I hate them myself, but to get everyone to know how much they're eating and what is comparable to everyday items.

Clearly she thinks portion control can
SUCK IT!

Kicking For Celiac

We live in a world where so many outside issues other than family, friends and happiness get in the way of living, laughing and loving.  More often than not we have to play the cards we've been dealt. Fortunately the hand may not be all that bad. There are countless diseases out there that are as mentally or physically debilitating. Celiac, according to those who suffer from it, is one of them.  Even though Celiac does not share the same mortality rate, its still a hardship that has to be monitored daily. The month of May may represents Celiac Awareness month but the individuals who suffer from it are aware of 24h hrs a day. There are a few well known Celebs and political figures who suffer from Celiac.  Bill Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, Keith Olberman, Zoey Deschanel and Elizabeth Hasselbeck.

Craig Pinto has been suffering from Celiac disease for over 10 years. It was in February Of 2011 when he decided to start his own foundation to inspire others and to raise general awareness. Craig has also been fortunate enough to have his voice heard on the hit show NY INK. It is here where he was able to share his story with the masses.
Q.What is Celiac disease?
A.Celiac Disease is an auto-immune disorder that damages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food, caused by a reaction to gluten.
Q.Who does it affect?
A.Currently, it affects approximately 1 in every 133 people, but about 1% of that population know they have it.
Q.How long have you had celiac?
A.I have had Celiac Disease now for over 12 years.
Q.How can one find out if they have it or not?
A.Celiac Disease can be diagnosed first through a blood screening, and then a follow up upper endoscopy for confirmation. As well, Celiac Disease is hereditary, so if you have a family member who is affected by this, it may be beneficial to get tested as well. Also, Celiac Disease can show up as Dermatitis Herpitaformis, which is a skin rash, but has no digestive symptoms of Celiac Disease. DH is diagnosed through blood tests and a skin biopsy.
Q.How can you relieve or elevate discomfort?
A.Currently, there is no medicinal treatment for Celiac Disease. The only treatment for relief of Celiac Disease is to strictly adhere to a gluten-free diet, to ensure feeling as healthy as possible. Discomfort can be elevated by veering from the diet and "cheating" with what you eat, as well as potential cross-contamination of your food with other foods that may contain gluten.
Q.Do you find it hard to to follow a gluten free diet?
A.Nowwadays I don't find it hard to follow a gluten free diet, besides if I am craving a quick snack food or late night snack, which are always tough for me to find. As far as eating meals goes, I eat a lot of home cooked meals, and restaurant options are becoming more readily available. When I was initially diagnosed, it was hard for me to adjust, due to the lack of products in traditional grocery stores as well as education in the restaurant industry.
Q.What was it like growing up?
A.I have had Crohn's Disease since I was a little kid, so I was always used to taking medication daily and used to having occasional stomach issues growing up. It wasn't until I was in college that I began dealing with Celiac Disease, which threw me for a bit of a loop, because I had to adjust, again, to living with another gastrointestinal issue. I was always an avid sports fan and always playing sports when I was younger, so I tried to not let that change much from when I was younger throughout going through these diagnoses.
Q.Does it effect physical activity?
A.My answer for this may be skewed, but I think if you LET it effect your physical activity, then the answer is yes. When I was initially diagnosed, I thought it was the end of the world because of everything I would be lacking in my life due to a diet, rather than really focusing on how to make the best of this situation. Personally, I think they biggest issue with diagnosis of Celiac Disease is initially psychological, and that can trickle down into your physical well being. If you are able to adjust your diet to feel well, you can definitely remain physically active. Some of the biggest things I have done, physically, in my life, came post-diagnosis.
Q.What inspired you to start a foundation?
A.I was really inspired by a lot of people around me, who reached out to me during our very first Guinness World Record fundraiser. The feedback I received during and after that event opened my eyes a bit to the lack of education and awareness, and more so to a lot of peoples desire to have an outreach or an outlet in the Celiac community. My goal after that was to really become a reachable part of the Celiac Disease community, and have really put together a Board of Directors that are able to relate and able to help most people that reach out to us.
Q.How did you get into Guinness?
A.I was actually really inspired to reach out to Guinness World Records after meeting Rob Dyrdek, who is a professional skateboarder, but also holds I think over 20 Guinness World Records on his own. The way he used his passion, combined with GWR and media really opened my mind to an idea that I could put my passions and ideas together, along with media to raise awareness and create a buzz for the Celiac Disease community. I set two different world records within a year, one for the Most Field Goals in 12 hours (717) and one for the Most Field Goals in 24 Hours (1,000), and the best part was doing both events to raise money and raise awareness for Celiac Disease.
Q.How does it feel?
A.It feels pretty great to have set world records, and still it's somewhat painful, physically, after the fact. I am really proud that I set these goals to hold world records for a reason and achieved them, and having a couple world records is a cool thing and something I can always look back at and hang my hat on. It's painful in the way that my legs and hips really haven't been the same since kicking 1,000 footballs one event then 1,500 the next event. There won't be any new kicking events in the near future, that is for sure.
Q.Do you think you've inspired others?
A. I like to hope that I have educated and inspired others to not give up on their goals, or at least opened some peoples eyes with this stuff that I did. It is nice to get letters or emails from people that can be helped just by being public with an event or being public and speaking about an issue I am passionate about, but I think if I was only able to get through to one person and they reached out to, and inspired others, I would consider it a success.
Q.Where can others find out about you're foundation?
A.You can find out about my foundation at www.kicking4celiac.org, which is our main website. We have links on all of the great programs we run, like our scholarship program and our Cleats 4 Kids program. We also have newsletters, as well as ways to donate and get involved on the website.
Q.What are some examples of food that contain gluten?
A.Some of the daily foods that contain gluten are bagels, sandwiches, pretzels, hamburger buns, pizza, pasta...really anything containing wheat flour, barley, semolina, rye, and a host of other ingredients.

Craig Is one of my closest friends, teammates and all around good guy. I hope his journey will inspire others to come forward with any aliment they might posses and try to inspire others. You never know who's life might be changed because of your story.keep living and keep fighting. Keep kicking ass,Craig.
